Are you getting enough exercise?
10th September, 2019
Not enough workers in the UK are getting enough exercise, according to AXA PPP Healthcare research. The annual ‘FIT-SE’ Index revealed that almost a third of the entire UK workforce finishes their working day simply too mentally and physically tried to hit the gym or go for a run.
‘Burn out’ is a common problem in the UK, and the research found that the public sector, including government and civil service, is suffering the most, with 39% saying they are too tired for exercise. This has now made the sector the least active part of the UK workforce, a title previously held by estate agents.
So why are people not exercising? The most common reasons given were a lack of time, general tiredness, and work commitments that result in working late and at weekends. Despite this, the study found that people were very aware of how important exercise is for not just physical, but mental health too.
An AXA spokesperson said that businesses can play a vital role in helping more employees find the time and energy to exercise. AXA are hoping that more take part in this year’s National Fitness Day, where employees are given time to exercise at the start of the day before beginning work.
