Life and Critical Illness Bulletin: Vitality reward healthy lifestyles

Life and Critical Illness Bulletin: Vitality reward healthy lifestyles

Vitality is once again leading the way in encouraging an active lifestyle through their policies. Through various campaigns, Vitality has developed their proposition to help people pursue a healthy and active life by offering a variety of discounts.

They have also now launched their Wellness Optimiser, which offers policyholders the chance to get upfront discounts and annual premium reductions. The new scheme will be available on the VitalityLife Plan, Essentials Plan and Mortgage Plus Plan. Members will receive a discount of up to 40% for term cover and up to 60% for whole of life, when compared to standard premiums.

Those looking to receive the discounts will be encouraged to complete a biyearly health check, which will include BMI, blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol checks. Due to the difficulty of maintaining an active lifestyle for those with certain health problems, such as those with diabetes and high BMIs, further discounts will be offered upfront.

People still believe protection is costly

Despite the work providers and advisers are doing to show just how affordable protection can be, a recent study has revealed that nearly one in three people still believe these products are still too expensive for them to consider.

The study by leading provider Royal London polled 2,000 people, looking at various aspects of protection and cover in the UK. The research also found that although a quarter had a life insurance policy, only 6% had critical illness cover and a surprising 4% had income protection, despite the latter being generally one of the most affordable types of cover.

The reality is that despite the assumption on cost, Royal London customers actually paid on average £21.28 each month for life insurance with over £120,000 worth of cover. The study also showed that assumptions about reliability and necessity prevails, despite 47% agreeing that life insurance is essential for those with a mortgage or with dependents.

Best Doctors see significant growth in 2016

There are several providers that give policyholders access to Best Doctors, the second opinion medical service, as part of their policy. AIG Life, Aviva and Royal London are just three providers that are taking advantage of the helpful services that can give those diagnosed with a critical illness access to treatment and advice from overseas.

2016 saw 140 new clients and more than five million new members added to the Best Doctors programme, showing significant growth throughout the year. Best Doctors now have access to over 53,000 doctors and 450 specialities worldwide, which mean those with a policy that grants access, can greatly benefit from the service.
