Women not saving and unlikely to cope without income

A CEO of Lloyds has highlighted that despite representing up to 80% of global consumer spending, women in their 30s would not survive a month if they were without their regular source of income. Furthermore, when compared with their male counterparts, women have five times less money in their pensions saved for retirement.

Chief Executive Officer of Lloyds London Inga Beale was speaking at an annual summit when she said that many women in their 30s ‘have no idea how to be able to save money or be able to look after themselves if something goes wrong". They often have no income protection in place or savings to fall back on. Beale also suggested that more needs to be done to support women in financial literacy and to encourage them to pursue a career in financial services.
