AIG recently purchased Ageas Protect and rebranded them to represent their new protection arm. Ageas had a long history which can be traced right back to 1842 to the Belgian Life insurer Assrances Générales until they merged with Bancassurer AMEC/VSB to become the more well know Fortis. Following the financial crisis in 2010 the shareholders re-branded the remaining insurance operations as AGEAS with ownership of Fortis passing to BNP Paribas.
Ageas have over 6,000 employees in the UK with offices all across the country and now boast over 8 million policy holders.
